Learn to stand.

Beloved, courage grows with understanding. Learn whom you trust, recognise the struggle, and practise faithful resistance with the help of the Spirit and Christ’s people.

Our training sequence

  1. Know your Lord

Begin with Christ and his saving work. Our introductory study of God’s attributes is now available in Foundations.

  2. Know what you are fighting

Distinguish the world, the flesh, and the devil, and learn to recognise deception without fear or excuses.

  3. Understand temptation

Expose the promise, refuse the bargain, and prepare a practical act of obedience.

  4. Remember your standing

Keep union with Christ, justification, and adoption distinct from a changing record of success.

  5. Learn your resources

Practise one passage this week with the help of prayer and a Christian friend.

  6. Practise resistance

Depend on the Spirit, refuse the opportunity, and put on the good you are called to do.

  7. Return after failure

Confess honestly, receive mercy in Christ, and take appropriate steps of repair and obedience.

Learn your resources

Suppose you keep replaying an argument and thinking of a sharper reply. Try this exercise over the next few days.

  1. Read the passage in context.

Read Ephesians 4:25–32. Notice whom Paul is addressing and why belonging to one another matters for the way we speak. Choose a sentence to carry into your next conversation. Practise reading Scripture in order

  2. Pray before you answer.

Name the actual desire to God. “Father, I want the last word. Help me tell the truth kindly and hear what I have missed.” Choose one thing to do when the conversation resumes, such as letting the other person finish.

  3. Ask someone to walk with you.

Tell a trusted brother or sister where you are struggling. Ask them to pray with you and check in after the conversation. When you gather for worship, listen together for how the Word calls you to love your neighbour. Read about the church as a family

At the end of the week, ask yourself what you said, whom it helped, and whether there is still a wrong to put right.

Keep truth and practice together

Studies of God’s character and judgment are available in Foundations. The dedicated study of the world, the flesh, and the devil follows our introductory battle session. Learn the distinctions, return to the passages, and practise faithful resistance within the life of Christ’s church.
